>  Football Drawings

When I am in the studio I sometimes listen to football commentaries on the radio. It struck me that the drama of a football game, particularly under floodlights is an equivalent drama to my way of working when I am in the middle of trying to grapple with a big painting.

The drawings of these commentaries seemed impossible and I would be forced to find a language to match the description of the commentator.

I like Jonathan Pearce most, as he gets pretty excited.

I start them at kick-off, have a cup of tea at half time (old school) and start again when the second half begins. I hate added time, and extra time is even worse, as the effort I have made to draw in ‘real time’ is pretty exhausting.

Whether these are any good is utterly beside the point, I just try to get through the game without injury.
