>  Landscape Drawings

I go on lots of walks and like to bump into things rather than look for them. If I take a drawing book and a 2b pencil I can make some notes about the landscape. These were made on the South Downs in Sussex. I spent hours in this environment when I was young and remember the skylarks ascending and descending. They live in my memory like little else.

The South Downs roll and dip and this gentle drama is deeply affecting. To draw it means to reawake to it. The information I note in the drawings does not, consciously, inform my other work. These are made for their own sake.
