This series were a response to listening to Keith Jarrett and the way in which he ‘riffs’ off a theme, boldly creates huge crescendos’, the way that he can be very graphic and concise when he plays. If he can play a piano like that, why can’t I make a drawing in an equivalent way? I feel his music to be quite sentimental, I have this inclination too and that is why it appeals to me. Or that might well be the other way around?
